The Flame Withing is a game project created in the institution of The Game Assembly
Me and 12 other developers teamed up to produce a product in 6 weeks from a reference game product of our choosing.
-
Game & Level Designer - Setting up features and metrics for gameplay, while blockouting. Levels. Iterating to ensure vision and game play engagement for the game product
-
Trailer Producer - Capturing and editing footage to produce a game trailer for the product

Game & Level Design
When the Pre-prod has done, me and my fellow designers started to write a Game Design Document, where we set down the rules and progression for the game, that the team would follow in the development. Laying down important information such as metrics, player mechanics, and player progression well written in the document.

After the Top - Down was set of my idea, I went in to the engine and started blocking out. Between iterations, we always play tested and iterated. Making sure to play test each others levels in the design team, to always keep the core and full experience at bay.
After we had our blockouts tested and fully iterated, we started our Set - Dressing Phase. this included putting out assets necessary to fill out and bring the level to life, after the set theme and style of the product.

Post Mortem
Insights: A strong structure is essential for development, but, as with any game development project, new challenges and learning opportunities always arise. As this was my first game developed in a custom engine, I had to adapt to an entirely new pipeline and workflow. However, through effective communication and problem-solving, we were able to establish a smooth workflow and keep the project on track.
Conclusions: The Flame Within was one of my most enjoyable projects. Drawing inspiration from the history and legends of my South American culture made the experience especially meaningful. Building a game from this perspective took me back to the days when I played classics like Super Mario, Rayman, and Sonic—a truly nostalgic and rewarding experience.
